Genzyme s presence in Geel, in the North of Belgium dates back to 2001. Since then Genzyme in Geel has continued to expand considerably. ELD partnership has been involved in the design and construction of a number of the high tech biotechnology manufacturing buildings the company currently occupies, including the Central Administration and Quality Control Laboratory building, the Utilities building and the future Data Centre.
Built in 2003-2004, the Administration and Quality Control building accommodate the offices for both administrative and management services as well as the Quality Control laboratory for the monitoring of the production.
The Utility building is an extensionto the existing Power Plant, creating extra workspace and offices for the maintenance service. It was handed over at the end of August this year.
The Guard House and Receiving building includes a 24 hours security service, a receiving area for both materials and contractors, and an intermediary storage for incoming goods prior to distribution throughout the entire Genzyme site.
The building will also house other support services and will act as the main back up data centre for the Geel site.
The architectural upgrading of the Waste water treatment building has been completed recently where a backlit U frame glazed wall turns it into a landmark sign along the Geel ring road.
