DMA has kicked off its first project in the Middle East for Aldar Properties. Located at Yas Island, a world class sporting & leisure destination, DMA has been appointed to complete the architecture and interior design for two new Accor hotels, associated leisure facilities, and serviced apartments. The practice is also taking steps to set up a permanent office in Abu Dhabi.

The design concept for Yas Island brings together three precious stones, which are each in their own way beautifully crafted. These elements are joined together via a thin ribbon which encompasses the site and accentuates the elements of nature. This not only informs the external shape of the building, it also goes on to inform both the interior and the functioning of the building.

The Accor Hotels on Yas Island are formed by a 350 bedroom Novotel, 256 bedroom Ibis, and 54 Accor Adagio serviced apartments. The Hotel also incorporates an Accor branded spa and gym, along with extensive conference facilities.

A Mezzanine level features the Novotel Bar & pool terrace and also provides a platform to enable the stand alone hotels to be linked to the adjacent retail centre.

Steven Separovich has been appointed as an Associate at DMA, and will head up the interiors team in the hotel & hospitality sector.

Steven is currently leading the design for two new Accor hotels, apartments and leisure facilities in Abu Dhabi, along with the design of a new hotel concept which will be launched later this year.

Before joining DMA Steven was a senior designer at Virgile & Stone and prior to that spent 10 years at Conran & Partners.
