This landmark new scheme will accentuate arrival into Barking. Located alongside the main rail station, the mixed use development proposes ground and first floor retail, medical or hotel use, with affordable housing above. A tower of private apartments will sit atop the landscaped podium roof.

The building form evolved from modelling to define its unique organic silhouette. Rationalising this concept the building provides an iconic tower which maximises high level views and southern aspect.

Addressing sustainability and achieving on site renewable energy has been central to the design. Wind turbines will be a feature above the tower while solar panels are proposed on the south façade. Winter-gardens to the affordable housing will act as a thermal double skin as well as an acoustic & visual buffer to the rail lines.

DMA’s scheme will be on display at MIPIM 2008 as part of the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards.
